Considered the most influential poet of his time, American poet John Ashbery published more than 20 volumes of poetry and won nearly every major American award for poetry throughout his career, including a Pulitzer Prize in 1976 for his collection Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror. Published in 1962, his third collection of poetry, The Tennis Court Oath, was published when Ashbery resided in France and worked as an art critic for the New York Herald Tribune European and for Art International of Zurich.
