Autograph letter signed by great Victorian novelist Charles Dickens. One page, dated May the fourteenth, 1841 and addressed to Henry Kermot Esquire, the letter reads, “Sir, I regret, I assure you, and I beg you to inform the committee of management that I do so quite sincerely – the not being able, at this time to subscribe towards the funds of the Saint Martin’s Library. I have no doubt that the institution is a very excellent one, and deserves support, but I have contributed to so many public societies of late that I really cannot at present subscribe to the list. Faithfully yours, Charles Dickens.” In very good condition. Matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Dickens by Alfred, Count D’Orsay. The letter measures 4.25 inches by 6.25 inches. The entire piece measures 14.25 inches by 17.25 inches.
