Finely bound set of this monumental history of the south, profusely illustrated. Octavo, 13 volumes, bound in rare publisher’s full black morocco, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, raised bands, with a flowing floral pattern in. In near fine condition. An exceptional set.

This work was conceived as a response to the perceived lack of a significant history of the South. "A cooperative work on the economic, political and cultural life of the south" (Nevins II, p.27).
