COOMBS, David. Foreword by Lady Spencer-Churchill [Winston S. Churchill].

Item Number: 139161

Cleveland and New York: The World Publishing Company, 1967.

First edition of Coombs’ definitive catalogue containing virtually all of Churchill’s paintings that are known to have survived. Quarto, original cloth, illustrated with 502 paintings by Sir Winston Churchill, 73 of them in color. Very good in a very good price-clipped dust jacket.

Sir Winston Churchill, Honorary Academian Extraordinary of the Royal Academy of Arts, is the outstanding example of a world statesman who found his chief recreation in painting. Illustrating virtually all of his paintings which are known to have survived, this book forms a kind of pictorial diary of Churchill's private life, a personal record of his family and friends, their homes, holidays and travels, across a span of more than forty years. There are a number of portraits, including a fine self-portrait which appears as the frontispiece, and a variety of landscapes and still-lifes.
