First edition of Christie’s classic murder mystery, adapted most recently into the 2022 film produced by Ridley Scott. Octavo, original publisher’s cloth. Very good in a very good dust jacket with professional restoration. Jacket design by English architect and artist Robin Halliday Macartney, who participated in several archaeological expeditions with Christie and was immortalized as “Mac” in her archaeological memoir Come, Tell Me How You Live. Macartney designed the dust jackets for four of Christie’s Poirot novels: Murder in Mesopotamia (1936), Murder in the Mews (1937), Death on the Nile (1937), and Appointment with Death (1938). Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box made by the Harcourt Bindery.
One of Christie's most recognizable titles, Death on the Nile was first published in the United Kingdom by Collins Crime Club on November 1st 1937 and in the United States by Dodd, Mead and Company the following year. Featuring perhaps Agatha Christie's most interesting and endearing character, Hercule Poirot, the story unfolds aboard the steamer Karnak, set to tour along the Nile River from Shellal to Wadi Halfa. “Death on the Nile must be read twice, once for enjoyment and once to see how the wheels go round” (The Times, London).
