Memorial broadside, signed by Elizabeth Bishop, one of only 150 examples. It measures 21 inches by 14.5 inches. Framed, signature lightly faded, small stain to the bottom edge. Rare.

Poet and painter Elizabeth Bishop began her friendship with Robert Lowell (1917-1977) in 1947. They communicated and collaborated until Lowell's death. Bishop wrote, "Our friendship which was often kept alive through years of separation only by letters, remained constant and affectionate, and I shall always be deeply grateful for it." The present lot is a special printing of "North Haven," an island in Maine where the two friends spent most of their time together. Written in 1978, this is one of the last poems published in Bishop's lifetime.
