Joseph Biden Jr. served as the 47th vice president under Barrack Obama from 2009 to 2017 before winning the 2020 election and becoming the 46th president of the United States. As president, Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent recession, restored America's membership in the Paris Climate Agreement, and oversaw the complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan that ended the war in Afghanistan and led to the government's overthrow by the Taliban. Biden was the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee for the 2024 U.S. presidential election. However, he withdrew his candidacy in July 2024 after a series of health concerns, becoming the first U.S. president to decline to seek reelection after securing enough delegates to win renomination.
