First edition of this biographical look at the life of a former United States President through a lens of faith and Scripture. Octavo, original half cloth. Association copy, inscribed by Jimmy Carter on the front free endpaper, “To Colin Powell Jimmy Carter.” The recipient, General Colin Powell was an American politician, statesman, diplomat, and United States Army officer who was the first Black secretary of state. After Powell’s resignation from his tenure as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1993, President Clinton sent the newly-retired Powell, together with former President Jimmy Carter and Senator Sam Nunn, to visit Haiti in an effort to persuade General Raoul Cédras and the ruling junta to abdicate in favor of former Haitian President Aristide, under the threat of an imminent US invasion to remove them by force. Powell’s status as a retired general, well-known and respected in Haiti, was held to be instrumental in persuading General Cédras. Fine in a near fine dust jacket.
Jimmy Carter was the thirty-ninth President of the United States, serving from 1977 to 1981. In 1982, he and his wife founded The Carter Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people around the world. Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." 'Living Faith' is a personal account of Carter's life - its people, compassion, and action - highlighting his service to humanity with the Christian values of love and charity.
