The Ender's Game was Card's break-out novel, who "exploded onto the science fiction scene with his first published story, 'Ender's Game' for Analog in 1977… [It] served as the germ for the Ender series, the first two volumes of which, published [in] 1985 and 1986… clearly established [Card] as one of the two or three dominant figures of recent science fiction… The Ender saga stands as one of the very few serious moral tales set among the stars" (Clute & Nicholls). Winner of the 1985 Nebula Award and the 1986 Hugo Award for best novel. It was basis for the 2013 film directed by Gavin Hood, starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, and Viola Davis, with Abigail Breslin and Ben Kingsley.
