Robert Estienne was a classical scholar and translator known for his typographical elegance. He published the remarkable Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in 1532 and twice the entire Hebrew Bible, one including the Commentary of Kimchi. In 1539, he received the distinguished titles "Printer in Greek to the king" and "royal typographer" (MClintock, 1880). Estienne made the Parisian establishment famous through his enhanced editions of classic grammatical works and textbooks, such as the reformer Philipp Melanchthon's. Estienne can be seen therefore as not merely a prolific religious and classic scholar but an advocate in the case for humanism.
