Stillington Hall, was built by Leslie Buswell, who was in the early 20th century, one of a foursome of wealthy, good-looking, hard-partying men who met in the social circles of Boston and Eastern Point and built their family fortunes. A very attractive set.

Lacroix was a writer of serious historical works (including a history of Napoleon III) and over 20 historical romances to his credit. His comprehensive social histories of medieval and Renaissance France, first published from 1848-51, treated a broad cross-section of French society, including, in this volume, military and ecclesiastical life.
