Player Piano.

Player Piano.

VONNEGUT JR., Kurt.

Item Number: 2768

New York: Charles Scribner's, 1952.

First edition of the author’s first book. Octavo, original green cloth. Lengthily inscribed by the author, “Warmest possible greetings to Jack Cordes, Who this day, God love him, asked me to autograph a book which, unloved, went out of print thirteen years ago. Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Iowa City Sept. 29, 1966”. An excellent near fine copy, which shows some of the usual sunning to the cloth extremities in a bright near fine dust jacket that shows only light toning to the spine panel. Housed in a custom quarter morocco clamshell box. An exceptional inscription.

Originally published on August 31, 1952, Player Piano tells the chilling tale of engineer Paul Proteus, who must find a way to live in a world dominated by a supercomputer and run completely by machines. "Vonnegut's black logic . . . gives us something to laugh about and much to fear" (The New York Times Book Review).
