MUIR, John .

Item Number: 80101

New York: The Century Co, 1912.

First edition of this seminal work relaying Muir’s first experience in the Yosemite Valley which inspired to him to establish Yosemite National Park. Octavo, original illustrated cloth, illustrated throughout, three folding maps. In near fine condition. An excellent example.

One of Scottish-American naturalist John Muir's greatest preservation efforts was the establishment of Yosemite National Park in September of 1890. Muir argued that the greatest threat to the pristine valley was domesticated livestock, and used his influence to introduce a bill to Congress to make the area into a national park, modeled after Yellowstone National Park. The Yosemite chronicles Muir's first visit to the Yosemite Valley including general geographical insights and surveys.
