American biologist Paul Ralph Ehrlich gained a reputation in the scientific community for his dire predictions and warnings about the consequences of population growth and limited resources. In his controversial book The Population Bomb (1968), Ehrlich asserted that the world's human population would soon increase to the point in which mass starvation would become inevitable. In the Population Explosion, Ehrlich further explores the environmental issue with a particular focus on the subjects of global warming, rain forest destruction, famine, air and water pollution.
