"Go win another one for the Gipper" Signed Print of President Reagan; From the library of Nancy Reagan's Brother
REAGAN, RONALD.
Ronald Reagan Signed Portrait.
: 1988.
Signed print of Ronald Reagan in one of his most famous roles, George Gipp in the film Knute Rockne, All American, signed on the matt below in Reagan’s hand, “Go win another one for the Gipper Ronald Reagan.” Reagan’s character was based on the true life of a college football player who died at the tender age of 25 from a streptococcal throat infection and pneumonia just two weeks after being elected Notre Dame’s first All-American by Walter Camp. In the movie, the legendary coach Knute Rockne tells his team, “The last thing George said to me, ‘Rock,’ he said, ‘sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, ask them to go out there with all they’ve got and win just one for the Gipper.” This quote is listed in the top 100 quotes from 100 years by the American Film Institute and the phrase “Win one for the Gipper” was later used as a political slogan by Ronald Reagan. Matted and framed with the seal of the President of the United States. Matthew and framed. The entire piece measures 16 inches by 10.5 inches. From the library of Dr. Richard A. Davis, brother of First Lady Nancy Reagan. Davis had a close relationship with his sister and President Reagan. They visited the White House often during the Reagan years. Their families got together in Washington at Christmastime and for the Fourth of July. The Davises attended both presidential inaugurations. And Dr. Davis and President Reagan enjoyed a great rapport. “They were very, very close. My dad thought the world of him as a human being,” Anne Peterson, the daughter of Davis. “They just had a great friendship. My dad was serious, and the president had a great sense of humor, so it was a great match. And my dad loved his sister, so they loved the same woman in different ways.” A unique piece of American history with exceptional provenance.
