Signed by Ronald Reagan on the half-title page. Ronald Wilson Reagan served as the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989 and became a highly influential voice of modern conservatism. Prior to his presidency, he was a Hollywood actor and union leader before serving as the 33rd governor of California from 1967 to 1975. When Reagan left office in 1989, he held an approval rating of 68%, matching those of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and later Bill Clinton, as the highest ratings for departing presidents in the modern era. He was the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower to serve two full terms after the five prior presidents did not. Evaluations of his presidency among historians and the general public place him among the upper tier of American presidents. Near fine in a good dust jacket with some pen markings to the rear panel.

First edition of this lecture by President Reagan. Octavo, original wrappers. In fine condition. Foreword by Edwin J. Fuelner, Jr. Although not marked, this if from the library of William Safire. Safire, was an important American author, columnist, journalist, and presidential speechwriter. He joined Nixon’s campaign for the 1960 Presidential race, and again in 1968. After Nixon’s 1968 victory, Safire served as a speechwriter for him and Spiro Agnew. He authored several political columns in addition to his weekly column “On Language” in The New York Times Magazine from 1979 until the month of his death and authored two books on grammar and linguistics: The New Language of Politics (1968) and what Zimmer called Safire’s “magnum opus,” Safire’s Political Dictionary. Safire later served as a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board from 1995 to 2004 and in 2006 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush. Rare.

Ford inviting DiMaggio to be a guest of honor at the 28th annual Salute to Excellence weekend program in June 1989, signed by Gerald Ford and Clint Eastwood; and an invitation to a luncheon held on Thursday, November 10, 1988 from President and Mrs. Reagan. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from DiMaggio’s estate signed by his granddaughters Paula DiMaggio Hamra and Kathie DiMaggio Stein. In fine condition.
