Quarto bound into two volumes in half-cloth over pebbled boards by Auguste Bellance of Paris, with marbled endpapers and a paper title label with Smythe's signature affixed to the front panel of the first volume. Written by Smythe in Paris between 1858 and 1863, the collection includes several early letters regarding the sale and purchase of lots in New York City including proposals by Smythe to sell his lots in Harlem…

The first part of Rights of Man was published in February 1791 by London publisher Johnson, but was immediately suppressed. With difficulty Paine was able to secure another publisher in London, J.S. Jordan. The second part was first published in London by Jordan on February 1792. In near fine condition.

The sculpture is on display in the Crypt of the U.S. Capitol Building. A typed Lincoln quotation pasted to mount at lower left. In very good condition. Double matted and framed. Scarce early collected edition of Paine's classic work. Duodecimo, two parts bound in one volume, contemporary three-quarter calf over marbled boards. In very good condition with rubbing to the extremities, spine, front and rear panels. First printed in London by Joseph Johnson in March, 1791, publication was quickly taken over by J.S. Jordan, who published his own revised edition later that same year. Part two was published a year later, in February, 1792. A rare and desirable combined edition, containing both parts of Paine's work.
