Additionally inscribed by him opposite the title page, "Stop ~ and smell the roses ~ S.S," above a drawing of flowers growing from a fallen man's feet. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. The recipient, Bartenev, is recorded as serving in the Russian Army during World War I, as the Commander of a battery on Moonsund, or the Western Estonian archipelago, in the Vainameri Sea off the coast of Estonia.
