John le Carré's 'A Most Wanted Man' is a satisfying critique of American policy under President George W. Bush with events and characters inspired by the real-life experiences of Turkish citizen Murat Kurnaz. Kurnaz was arrested in Pakistan in 2001, after which he was detained and tortured in American military detention camps until his release in 2006. Le Carré described Kurnaz's memoir 'Five Years of My Life: An Innocent Man in Guantanamo' as "[t]he most compassionate, truthful, and dignified account of the disgrace of Guantanamo that you are ever likely to read."
