First edition of Tenzing’s second autobiography, the sequel to his best-selling Tiger of the Snows. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by the author on the half-title page beneath an inscription in a secretarial hand, “To William Levine,” “Tenzing Norgay.” With the original typed transmittal letter on Norgay’s personal letterhead signed by him laid in which reads: Dear William Levine, I have just returned back home here in Darjeeling. It was a very wonderful time in China which I hope you will never forget. I am sending you my book, Tenzing After Everest, with my autograph. With kind regards a loves. Sincerely, “Tenzing Norgay.” Near fine in a good price-clipped dust jacket. A nice example with noted provenance.
Tenzing After Everest documents Norgay's various travels and climbs following his historic ascent of Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary. By 1977, Norgay had taken part in seven Everest expeditions. He served as Director of Field Training at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling from 1954 to 1976 and in 1978, just after this book was published, Norgay founded Tenzing Norgay Adventures, a company that led trekking adventures in the Himalayas. A small loss to the rear flap of the dust jacket.
