Atlas Shrugged.

“I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine": First Edition of Atlas Shrugged; Signed by Ayn Rand

Atlas Shrugged.

RAND, Ayn.

Item Number: 2153

New York: Random House, 1957.

First edition. Octavo, original cloth. Boldly signed by Ayn Rand on the front free endpaper. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with just a touch of shelfwear. A very sharp example  of this landmark work.

The theme of Atlas Shrugged, as Rand described it, is "the role of man's mind in existence." The book explores a number of philosophical themes that Rand would subsequently develop into the philosophy of Objectivism. By 1984 more than five million copies of Atlas Shrugged had been sold, and in a 1991 Library of Congress survey Americans named it second only to the Bible as the book that had most influenced their lives.
