Signed limited first edition of this amusing account of the 19th-century dandy, one of only 550 copies (500 of which were offered for sale), signed on the verso of the half-title page by Virginia Woolf in her characteristic purple ink. Quarto, original half gilt-stamped red cloth, gray paper boards, mounted cover illustration, top edge gilt. Very good in the rare original slipcase, which is in good condition.

First published in the Nation & Athenaeum (September 28, 1929), Woolf's essay describes the life, habits and unfortunate end of Beau Brummel, early 19th-century arbiter of fashion. Designed and decorated with two color illustrations by W.A. Dwiggins and printed by William Edwin Rudge.
