In addition to being a Newbery Medal winner, Bridge to Terabithia was also named an ALA Notable Children's Book and has become a touchstone of children's literature. It is the basis for the 2007 film directed by Gábor Csupó from a screenplay by David L. Paterson and Jeff Stockwell, starring Josh Hutcherson, Anna Sophia Robb, Bailee Madison, Zooey Deschanel, and Robert Patrick.
