Early printing of Gaskell’s popular novel. Octavo, original cloth elaborately decorated in gilt, with a preface by Anne Thackeray Ritchie and illustrations by Hugh Thomson, tissue-guarded frontispiece. In near fine condition.
Cranford first appeared in instalments in the magazine Household Words, then was published with minor revisions as a book in 1853. The work gained widespread popularity and saw a number of dramatic treatments for the stage, the radio and TV.
