Die Fünf Bücher der Weisung is Martin Buber’s and Franz Rosenzweig’s influential German translation of the Torah, completed as part of their broader effort to render the Hebrew Bible in a way that preserves its linguistic and theological richness. Departing from conventional translations, their work emphasizes the oral and poetic qualities of the original Hebrew, seeking to convey its rhythm, repetition, and spiritual immediacy. Buber’s existential philosophy and Rosenzweig’s dialogical theology shape the translation’s interpretive framework, highlighting the relational nature of the divine-human encounter central to the biblical text. It is a major and pioneering milestone in Bible translation.
