The founder of psychoanalysis, Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud developed therapeutic tech-niques such as the use of free association and discovered transference, establishing its central role in the analytic process. Though in overall decline as a diagnostic and clinical practice, psychoanal-ysis remains influential within psychology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy, and across the humanities. Freud published over 40 books throughout his lifetime, many on the subject of dream theory and interpretation including The Interpretation of Dreams, what most consider to be his greatest and most influential work. Throughout his works, Freud proposed that dreams were forms of “wish fulfillment”, or attempts by the unconscious mind to resolve conflicts both recent and far in the recesses of dreamer’s past.
