Item Number: 111628
New York/ Philadelphia: Chilton Books, 1965.
First edition of the author’s masterpiece. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “For Jerry April 24, 1976 Keep on trucking- Frank Herbert.” The recipient, Jerry Garcia was best known for his work as the lead guitarist and as a vocalist with the band the Grateful Dead, which came to prominence during the counterculture era in the 1960s. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with a touch of shelfwear to the extremities. Jacket art by John Schoenherr. An exceptional example.
Dune was awarded the first Nebula award for best science fiction novel, shared the Hugo award, and "became one of the most famous of all science fiction novels" (The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction). Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family--and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream. A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.
