First editions of each volume. Octavo, original blue cloth. Each are signed by Nobel Prize winning-poet Seamus Heaney. Included is a sheet signed by the participants upon release of publication which reads, “On the occasion of the Launch of the Field Day Anthology of Irish Writing, with best wishes from: (signed by) Seamus Deane, Brian Friel, David Hammond, Tom Paulin, and Seamus Heaney. These five men were the creators and directors of the Field Day Theater Company in 1980 and Field Day Publishing in 1984.

The Irish poet Seamus Deane has won numerous awards, including the 1996 Guardian Fiction Prize, the 1996 South Bank Show Annual Award for Literature, and the Irish Times International Fiction Prize and the Irish Literature Prize in 1997. Field Day is an affiliation of writers and poets from the North and South of Ireland with the purpose to drafting a version of Ireland's past and present history.
