First edition of this outstanding account of stalwart bravery from inside China’s interrogation rooms. Octavo, original scarlet boards, bookplate to the front pastedown from “The Private Collection of Secretary Madeleine K. Albright.” Presentation copy, lengthily inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “Madam Albright, I have long been a fan and a student of your work and we’ve met twice; once at the United Nations when I was an intern in 1999, and once in Denver at a fundraiser for Secretary Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential run. Here is my story of frontline human rights work, and it is an honor to share it with you. Thanks for all you do, and have done, in the world, you’ve inspired thousands of us! Be bold. Be brave! Kiri Westby 2021.” The recipient, Madeleine K. Albright, was the first woman to serve as the U.S. Secretary of State. She acted under President Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001, leading the United States through foreign policy in the Middle East with the endorsement of military action in Iraq. At the 1998 NATO summit, Albright coined the “3 Ds” of NATO, “which is no diminution of NATO, no discrimination and no duplication – because I think that we don’t need any of those three “Ds” to happen.” After her tenure as Secretary of State, she served as chair of the consulting Albright Stonebridge Group and was the Michael and Virginia Mortara Endowed Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. For Albright’s contributions to foreign policy and relations that defined a century, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Accompanied by the author’s original ‘Fortune Favors the Brave’ sticker.

The tense retelling of interrogation and torture faced by a young American human rights activist, Kiri Westby's 'Fortune Favors the Brave' is "not a tale the Chinese government wants told." Arrested by the Chinese military for initiating a historic Tibetan Freedom protest, Westby faced harrowing tribulations that manifest on the pages of this book and the bravery of women across the globe.
