Panerai is a prestigious luxury Italian watchmaking brand known for its distinctive designs and association with the maritime world. Founded in Florence, Italy, in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai, the company was a watch shop, workshop, and school of watchmaking. In the early 20th century, Panerai became the official supplier of precision instruments to the Italian Navy, including luminous sighting devices and underwater depth gauges, which have become the inspiration for the brand's design aesthetic. In recent years, Panerai has focused on developing its own in-house movements, showcasing its commitment to horological innovation and craftsmanship. These movements are often visible through exhibition casebacks, allowing enthusiasts to admire the intricate mechanical workings of their timepieces.
