Rare 20th century typed letter signed by President Roosevelt as New York Governor. One page, typescript on State of New York Executive Chamber stationary, the letter is dated August 11, 1930 and reads, ‘Mr. Edwin T. Thayer, Brook Bend Tavern, Monterey, Mass. Dear Mr. Thayer: Thanks much for your delightful letter of August seventh. I am glad to know that you are carrying on such a fine work for the boys. I deeply regret it will be impossible for me to visit the farm at Canaan after the exercises at New Lebanon as I have already made arrangements to go on to Hyde Park. Sincerely yours, “Franklin D. American statesman and political leader Franklin Delano Roosevelt served as the President of the United States from 1933 to 1945. A Democrat, he won a record four presidential elections and dominated his party after 1932 as a central figure in world events during the mid-20th century, leading the United States during a time of worldwide economic depression and war. During the summer of 1938, Roosevelt cruised the Galapagos Islands on a scientific expedition sponsored by the Smithsonian. Aboard the U.S.S. Houston with him were scientists representing a wide field of studies. These monographs were published as government pamphlets and include at least three new species discovered and named for F.D.R.
