Klarsfeld's memorial is "the definitive history of the 85 railway transports that deported more than 11,000 Jewish children as comprehensive a book as we are likely to get" (Parr & Badger II). "In an exhaustive feat of research presented as a memorial Serge Klarsfield spent decades restoring the names of 11,400 French Jewish children who were deported during WWII. Most were put to death in Nazi camps 'Here each child has a story, where he was arrested and what camp he was sent to,' said Klarsfeld, himself a childhood survivor of the Nazi occupation. and a Paris lawyer who has spent his life documenting French and German war crimes in WWII. But, he said: 'This is not a book against the killers. This is a book in favor of the victims" (New York Times).
