Richard Presley Tooker (1902–1966) was an American author known for his contributions to pulp fiction and adventure narratives. Born in Farina, Illinois, Tooker began publishing stories at the age of 15 and later held editorial positions with various Western publications. In 1936, he authored Inland Deep, a science fiction novel inspired by Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth. The narrative follows philanthropist Roger Anson and museum curator Bob Langtree as they explore the Comanche Caves in northern Colorado, leading them to a subterranean world inhabited by dinosaurs and a semi-intelligent race. Tooker's work exemplifies the early 20th-century fascination with lost worlds and subterranean adventures, contributing to the pulp fiction genre's exploration of speculative and imaginative storytelling.
