On November 29, 1963, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Executive Order No. 11130, creating a Commission “to ascertain, evaluate and report upon the facts relating to the assassination of the late President John F. Kennedy and the subsequent violent death of the man charged with the assassination.” From February through September of 1964 the seven members of the President’s commission (called the Warren Commission after its Chairman, Chief Justice Earl Warren) heard the testimony of hundreds of witnesses and experts (Volumes I-XV), reviewed thousands of exhibits (Volumes XVI-XXVI), and ultimately distilled this mass of evidence into the one-volume Report of the President’s Commission. All subsequent investigations of the Kennedy Assassination have sought either to bolster or debunk the Warren Commission’s ‘lone gunman’ conclusion, presented here definitively for the first time.
