Hand-colored engraved map of the Promised Land divided among the 12 tribes of Israel. One page with hand-colored borders, the map shows the tribes of Israel in color. The hand-colored title cartouche depicts Moses receiving the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai with other scenes from Exodus in the background. In the opposite corner, another cartouche depicts Moses and Aaron who point to an inset map of the wanderings of the Israelites from Egypt through Sinai and into Canaan. In fine condition with an antiquarian notation to the upper right corner and minimal toning to the margins. The piece measures 19.5 inches by 23 inches.

Johann Baptist Homann was a German geographer and cartographer who made significant contributions to mapmaking and geography during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Born in Oberkammlach, Bavaria, Homann originally trained as a Jesuit scholar but later became interested in cartography. He established himself as a mapmaker in Nuremberg with Homann Heirs in 1702, which became one of the most successful map publishing houses in Europe. Homann's maps were known for their accuracy, artistic quality, and decorative elements. He produced maps of various regions around the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, often including detailed geographical information, political boundaries, and cultural features.
