December 1939 Issue of Model Builder Magazine, the ‘The Magazine of Model Railroading for Men and Boys’ published every other month by Lionel Corporation. Imperial octavo, original wrappers, featuring a black and white photograph of Joe Di Maggio with a New York Central model railroad on the cover with related excerpt on page 29 that reads, “On the cover of this issue of the Model Builder is a picture of Joe DiMaggio, outstanding ball player on the world’s champion New York Yankees. When this year’s greatest home run hitter is not on the ball field, he will probably be found operating and tinkering with his miniature railroad. The pride of the Di Maggio line is a quarter-inch scale model Hudson locomotive, No. 5344. New York newspapers recently printed pictures of DiMaggio with his trains under a headline: ‘JOE GOES INTO TRAINING.'” Boldly signed in blue felt tip by Joe Di Maggio on top of his portrait. In very good condition. A rare and unique example.

Joe DiMaggio nicknamed "Joltin' Joe" and "The Yankee Clipper", was an American Major League Baseball center fielder who played his entire 13-year career for the New York Yankees. He is perhaps best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16, 1941), a record that still stands. At the time of his retirement, he ranked fifth in career home runs (361) and sixth in career slugging percentage (.579). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955, and was voted the sport's greatest living player in a poll taken during the baseball centennial year of 1969.
