Despite Marilyn Monroe's suspicion that Joe DiMaggio would be a stereotypically vulgar and arrogant athlete, after meeing on a blind date in 1952, the couple spent two years together before getting married in 1954. Their relationship saw trouble with DiMaggio's jealousy and controlling attitude, which rocketed into physical violence after the filming of Monroe's famous subway scene in 'The Seven Year Itch.' Despite divorce, the two still harbored fondness for one another, and DiMaggio wanted nothing more than to be with her, developing as a person and later becoming a steadfast friend. The tragedy of Monroe's death was followed only by love from DiMaggio, who arranged the funeral and and never married again.
