Autograph letter signed by British author John le Carré. Quarto, two pages on John le Carré’s personal stationary, the letter reads in full, “Dear Stacy, Thanks for your letter. Mine will be short as I am correcting galley (first printed sheets) of my new novel ‘The Mission Song’ out next September, & I’m just back from Congo, where it’s partly set, and in a muddle. I write by hand & my wife types, retypes, re-re-retypes & so it goes. Brian Aldiss is tough going – don’t be too hard on yourself. Have you read any P. G. Wodehouse? The funniest man ever. Start with the Jeeves books & fan out, if you decide you like him. If you want fine writing and great stories, go to ‘Anna Karenina’, ‘Vanity Fair’; and ‘The Good Soldier’ by Ford Maddox Ford. If you like big, big stories try ‘The Three Musketeers’ & ‘The Prisoner of Zenda.’ When you’re really enjoying what you’re reading, ‘knowledge’ & ‘broadening’ will follow by themselves. So have fun first. Best, David Cornwell P.S. And don’t mind that bit of leg too much. You’ll be FINE. DC.” In fine condition with mail folds. A fine insight into the influences and literary opinions of the great crime writer.
