Ruth Plumy Thompson was chosen by Baum's publishers to continue the 'Oz' series due to her talent for storytelling and her familiarity with the world of Oz. In 'Kabumpo in Oz,' Prince Pompadore of Pumperdink receives a scroll on his eighteenth birthday, warning that unless he weds a 'proper princess' within seven days, his kingdom will disappear. The prince, along with the kingdom's wise elephant Kabumpo, set off on an adventure to the Emerald City, so Pomp can find a princess to wed.
