First edition of this profound story of perseverance against racial hatred and bigotry. Octavo, original half cloth, illustrated with black and white photographs. Association copy, inscribed by the authors on the half-title page, “For Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, with sincere Thanks for your friendship & for helping to make this story a success! Bill Cohen. Madame Secretary, Thanks for your support. I hope you enjoy the read. Love, Janet.” The recipient, Madeleine K. Albright, was the first woman to serve as the U.S. Secretary of State. She acted under President Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001, leading the United States through foreign policy in the Middle East with the endorsement of military action in Iraq. At the 1998 NATO summit, Albright coined the “3 Ds” of NATO, “which is no diminution of NATO, no discrimination and no duplication – because I think that we don’t need any of those three “Ds” to happen.” After her tenure as Secretary of State, she served as chair of the consulting Albright Stonebridge Group and was the Michael and Virginia Mortara Endowed Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. She and William S. Cohen also co-headed the Genocide Prevention Task Force to respond to emerging threats of genocide. For Albright’s contributions to foreign policy and relations that defined a century, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket, bookplate of Madeleine K. Albright to the front pastedown. Jacket design by Piper F. Wallis.

"'Love in Black and White' is a great love story, and much more. Bill and Janet Cohen show what can happen when people from diverse backgrounds move beyond their differences to embrace their common humanity. We can all learn from their example" (President Bill Clinton). "A unique and moving memoir ... filled with poignant and joyous stories" (Madeleine K. Albright).
