Special correspondent of The New York Herald and gold medalist of The Royal Geographical Society, Henry M. Stanley, composed this record of British expedition and battle in the mountain-town of Magdala, located 10,000 feet above sea level and surrounded by valleys thousands of feet deep, as a way of preserving a history of successful English fighting and exploration.
