FISCHER, Bobby.

Item Number: 70020

New York: Simon & Schuster, 1968.

First edition of this classic work, which is regarded as one of the great pieces of chess literature. Octavo, original half cloth. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to his Coach Bill Lombardy, “Bobby Fischer thanks a lot for your help and patience To Bill.” With a note by Lombardy, which reads, “Sept 1st, 1972 First autograph of Bobby Fischer as World Champion.” Bill Lombardy was an American chess grandmaster and one of the leading American chess players during the 1950s and 1960s, and a contemporary of Bobby Fischer, whom he coached from the time Fischer was age 11½ through the World Chess Championship 1972 an event Garry Kasparov noted, “treated on both sides of the Atlantic as a crushing moment in the… cold war.” Lombardy led the U.S. Student Team to Gold in the 1960 World Student Team Championship in Leningrad. He was the only World Junior Champion to win with a perfect score. From the estate of William Lombardy. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. A considerable piece of chess history.

One of the most historically significant chess books written, My 60 Memorable Games is an enhancement of the original title, Bobby Fischer's Games of Chess. It is improved with even more game reviews, and it is written at a later point in Fischer's chess career from which he gives even greater insight.
