Vintage glossy color photograph of the British royal family posing in front of a New Zealand National Airways Corporation jet during their 1970 tour of the island nation. The royal family toured New Zealand from March 12-30, 1970, as Queen Elizabeth II participated in the James Cook bicentenary celebrations and introduced her children, Prince Charles (age 21) and Princess Anne (age 19), to the country. Signed on the mount by King Charles III as Prince (“Charles”), Queen Elizabeth (“Elizabeth R, 1970”), Prince Philip (“Philip”), and Princess Anne (“Anne”). Affixed to an off-white mount. In fine condition. The piece measures 13 inches by 12 inches. Rare and desirable.

Elizabeth II has been Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand since 6 February 1952. She ascended the throne at the age of 25, upon the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952, and was proclaimed queen by her various privy and executive councils shortly afterwards. The coronation took place more than a year later on June 2, 1953 because of the tradition that holding such a festival is inappropriate during the period of mourning that follows the death of a monarch.
