First printing of this edition of this sincere autobiography of the famous shoe designer. Octavo, original publisher’s cloth, frontispiece portrait of Salvatore Ferragamo by Pietro Annigoni, illustrated with black and white photographs throughout. Presentation copy, lengthily inscribed by the author’s wife and son on the front free endpaper, “Florence June 2015 – Her Excellence, Madeleine Albright, I am pleased to send my very best wishes and this Salvatore Ferragamo Biography. Best wishes, Wanda Ferragamo Leonardo Ferragamo.” The recipient, Madeleine K. Albright, was the first woman to serve as the U.S. Secretary of State. She acted under President Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001, leading the United States through foreign policy in the Middle East with the endorsement of military action in Iraq. At the 1998 NATO summit, Albright coined the “3 Ds” of NATO, “which is no diminution of NATO, no discrimination and no duplication – because I think that we don’t need any of those three “Ds” to happen.” After her tenure as Secretary of State, she served as chair of the consulting Albright Stonebridge Group and was the Michael and Virginia Mortara Endowed Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. For Albright’s contributions to foreign policy and relations that defined a century, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012. Fine in a near fine dust jacket, bookplate of Madeleine K. Albright to the front pastedown.

The famous shoe designer and founder of Salvatore Ferragamo S.p.A, Ferragamo found his life's work at the age of nine with his first pair of high heels. After opening a small store at fourteen and moving to the bustling state of California, his business and interest in shoes only grew. Having faith that shoes could be both beautiful and comfortable, Ferragamo studied anatomy at the University of Southern California to perfect his craft. His work continues to inspire young fashion designers with inventive hearts to be daring and bold.
