An expansion of an earlier one-act play, Confessional, Tennessee Williams' Small Craft Warnings centers on a motley group of people gathered in a seedy coastal bar in Southern California. The characters include a lusty beautician and her ne'er do well lover, an alcoholic doctor, washed-up screenwriter, middle-aged short-order cook, and, of course, the congenial bartender. The play premiered on April 2, 1972 at the Off-Broadway Truck and Warehouse Theatre and later moved to the New Theatre on the upper East Side.
