Wilbur during her eleven-year psychoanalysis, Sybil's diaries and essays, tape recordings of the actual selves, and the author's face-to-face encounter with each of Sybil's personalities, 'Sybil' tells the true story of of one woman's desperate struggle living with sixteen personalities. Upon the publication of this book, numerous talk shows hosted discussions and forums about Sybil and multiple personality disorder. 'Sybil' was made into a television movie in 1976, for which actor Sally Field won an Emmy for her portrayal of Sybil.
