First edition, first printing with “W. F. Hall Printing Co. / Chicago” in Old English type in two lines on the copyright page of the author’s classic work. Octavo, bound in full morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panel, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Tarzan of the Apes is a novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first in a series of books about the title character Tarzan. It was first published in the pulp magazine All-Story Magazine in October, 1912; the first book edition was published in 1914 by A.C. McClurg & Co in Chicago. The publisher was made famous by their original publishing of the Tarzan of the Apes novels and other stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
