Octavo, original publisher’s cloth with gilt titles and four gilt rings to the spine and elaborate stamping to the front and rear panels, engraved tissue-guarded title page, publisher’s advertisement to the front and rear endpapers (BAL binding A). In very good condition.

A member of the Fireside poets, American physician, poet, and polymath Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. was acclaimed by his peers as one of the best writers of the day. His most famous prose works are the "Breakfast-Table" series, which began with The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table (1858), which first appeared in Atlantic Monthly and was later developed into a three volume series.
