Ruth Plumy Thompson was chosen by Baum's publishers to continue the 'Oz' series due to her talent for storytelling and her familiarity with the world of Oz. In 'The Giant Horse of Oz,' she introduces child readers to new and whimsical characters, telling the story of the malevolent lake beast Quiberon's demand for three mortal maidens and two groups' quests to resist him.
