Shêng chi t’u” transliterated from Chinese characters in title. The plates, with explanatory letterpress in Chinese and English, illustrate the life and cult of Confucius. In very good condition. Rare.
Chinese philosopher Confucius’s principles had a basis in common Chinese tradition with an emphasis on ancestral veneration, respect for one’s elders, and strong family loyalty. His teachings left a legacy of disciples and gained widespread prominence throughout the mid-first century and became the official imperial philosophy of China after his death in 479 B.C.E.
